Walrus Winter Eracing League – Race 6 FINALE

Week 6 – Finale Race.

So it’s the day after the night before and the reality that the Sexy Walrus E-racing league has to come it’s final conclusion has not yet fully sunk it.

Over the past week tensions were running high in Dixleton Scott, rumours abound that due to a no-show on the start line G.Dix would be stood down as Captain and T.Fleming would be replace by one of the U-19s after being so easily dropped on the climb. The clamour and vitriol on social media directed at the riders after the Evil green’s effortlessly blew away Dixleton, was hard to take. ‘Why can’t you all be more like Alec’ a comment that was printed out and stuck up in the Dixleton changing room. The Evil Green’s strong team showing on the HC climb last week, forced an emergency altitude training camp in a last ditch attempt to go back to the team’s core values, simplicity, winning and being bastards.

…and so the race. Monsieur Humphries as the race director could not have selected a more idyllic location, the rolling hills, sequoias as far as the eye could see ,and the climb, oh yes the climb! The early break was full of promise, G.Humphries and H.Courtier finding new depths of hurt in order to stay away from the oncoming evil greens, however it was MVP C.Monk who really stole the show, returning to the front to drive the break like a moth to a flame.

With his new contract up for negotiation and a second home on the Costa Del Sol in his mind T.Lopez launched an attack at the foot of the HC climb in what was described by one spectator as ‘insanity of the highest order…’ another saying ‘could this be the new Van Der Poel’, high praise indeed! However the pace set by J.Lloyd soon reeled him, before the peloton blew past, never to see him again. A.Leslie and R.Lagnado attacking in 1-2s frayed the peloton down to bare bones before Dixleton’s Scrott launched their decisive move, the failures of last week ringing in their ears. B.Smith on a mountain bike pulling away from the peloton to claim vital KOM points will surely result in that contract extension, A.Maguire burying himself alone in an attempt for KOM points has made waves amongst the Belgian classics circles, 2022 will be a big year and B.Thornton, the super domestique has already made sure of his spot on the next Dixleton team, described by many as the heartbeat of the team.

Despite the impressive organised efforts in the chase from G.Acheson, A.Davies, E.Smith and too many others to name here, the break against all odds stayed the distance. With the champagne from the victory celebrations still being drunk, albeit a victory magnanimously given by G.Dix in a vague attempt by T.Fleming to get the most aggressive rider jersey, his fiancée was overheard saying ‘Oh great, is your weekly hamster wheel now over for good, have a shower you smell and your dinner is ready!’

Little does she know this is only the beginning….

This paper would like to formally thank the race organisers for the variety, organisation and time. This truly has been the best Sexy Walrus E-Racing Series to date.
